Coronavirus Updates

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a global pandemic that has had a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of people across the world and of course our patients here at Ashgrove Medical Centre.

It is important for all patients to stay informed about the virus and the best ways to protect themselves and their loved ones. We endeavour to keep our patients updated on the most recent Coronavirus guidelines, including how to recognise symptoms of the virus, how to protect yourself, and what to do if you think you have been infected.

Rules and procedures surrounding COVID-19 have relaxed, which doesn’t mean we should be carefree, we still need to be careful as COVID-19 is still with us.

While COVID-19 may be a mild illness for some, for others it can make you feel very unwell, meaning time off work and missing out on social events with family and friends. For some people, COVID-19 causes extremely serious illness; many people are still dying from COVID-19. Getting COVID-19 can also cause the longer-term impacts of Long Covid which can greatly impact your quality of life.

Coronavirus vaccinations

The importance of coronavirus vaccines is undeniable. Vaccines are a powerful tool that can protect you, your loved ones, and the community as a whole.

Vaccines work by helping the body develop immunity to the virus. This is done by introducing a weakened or inactivated form of the virus into the body, which causes the body to produce antibodies that can fight off the virus if it is encountered again. This can help to prevent serious illness, hospitalisation, and death.

Spring Boosters: Spring boosters will be available from April 2023 for people aged 75+, for residents of care homes for older adults, and for people aged 5+ with severe immunosuppression.

You will be contacted when you are due a COVID-19 vaccination.
